Morning shake recipe & Form Nutrition

Hi! Here I am, sharing the morning protein shake I’ve had almost every morning for the last 4 years and my favourite protein powdered banana pancakes with the most incredible protein powder I’ve found. My morning shake takes 5 minutes to make and that includes the cleaning up if you make it with a stick blender. If you’re just here for the recipes - skip to the lower part of the sites. If you want to know why it’s important to cover your protein intake and why I’m such a fan of the protein powder from From Nutrition - that I even contacted them to become an affiliate - read on here.

Radiating from the inside out

I truly believe in nourishing ourselves wholeheartedly and radiating from within and a thing this requires is us looking after our bodies: We must sleep sufficiently, drink a lot of water, take care of our emotional wellbeing and move our bodies with love; but we must also make sure to provide it the right things foodwise.

Different bodies need different nutrition and you can never say that one specific food is inherently good. One man’s cure is another one’s poison. However, what we do know is that protein is a vital ingredient when it comes to our nutrition, and sadly I see so many clients who don’t have enough of it to cover their basic daily need. This has a strong effect on their blood sugar levels and often create a knock on effect physically that lead them to make poor choices for themselves daily.

Protein Goodness

Protein is vital for maintaining healthy skin, hair, nails (connective tissue) and it supports our immune system as well as our metabolism. It also helps us build muscle and be lean. Plus, another vital thing it does is that it helps keep out blood sugar levels stable. Over the years a thing I see time and time again in the lifestyle analyses I do is that many people don’t get their protein in, in the morning. When they don’t, they oftentimes end up having a dip in energy usually right after lunch or later in the afternoon or even in the evening, which then has them reaching for sugary things such as sweets, chocolates, sodas, biscuits etc. in an attempt to get their energy levels up. What then happens is that they either stuff themselves and feel guilty, which makes them starve themselves in their solid meals to make up for it - either on the day or the next day; Or they stuff themselves right before bed causing them to be high on sugar, which means they can’t fall asleep and so they wake up the next day exhausted - and in need of even more sugar to have the energy to get through the day. Remember, the body only has two ways of getting energy; sleep of food. Seriously, this is such a common cycle and if this is you, don’t beat yourself up! That literally will help nothing. But, do keep reading and make the choice to be kind to yourself, so you can make loving choices for you.

Protein are our ‘gate keepers’; they keep us full for longer and help maintain blood sugar stability. Sure we also need carbs and veggies, so don’t go overboard, but protein is important and I’d very much advice you have it at every meal. Living a fast paced life though, I get that it can be easier to just skip breakfast or have something quick, but to give yourself a great start and fuel your body for the day maybe you want to experiment with having a protein shake, skyr or oatmeal with protein powder for breakfast. When we provide good nutrients for the body consistently our body also learns that it can trust us and in turn this can help lower our stress levels by installing a calm belief in it; that it is being looked after. The reason why I suggest the shake is because it’s so fast to make and it’s delicious so it’s a lovely, nourishing start to the day. If you have more time you can also use it as a base for a bowl with topping, so do what you’d like.

Form nutrition protein powder

Protein powder isn’t just protein powder. There are many different kinds and blends, but I do find that price and quality usually go hand in hand when it comes to supplements generally. For a great protein powder to supplement your diet I very much recommend the blends from Form Nutrition. This protein power is one of my favorites because it tastes amazing and it feels really natural to me. It’s vegan and holds no artificial sweeteners, no GMO and soy (which can affect our hormones), no gluten or ‘fillers’ (the things with no real value you add for more produce according to my most trusted natureopath) and also no sugar. Instead it’s full of goodness and it’s created by a PHD nutritionist for a full amino acid profile protein, which a pescatarian like me loves.

I do sound like I’m selling here, but I must say that I always hated the graininess of protein powders I tried before and I always disliked their synthetic flavour, but this one I love! The texture is nice and not grainy and the flavours are amazing. My morning shake actually tastes a little like a dessert to me and I think I have still yet to meet someone who tried the shake, who didn’t like it. Personally I in particular love the performance proteins in the flavors; vanilla and peanut butter chocolate.

5 MINUTE MORNING SHAKE RECIPE

In a stick blender container mix together:

1/2 dl (frozen) organic blueberries (antioxidants)

1/2 dl (frozen) organic rasberries (antioxidants)

A handful of organic spinach (vitamin A, C, K & iron)

1 heaped tbsp. cacao powder (protein)

1 heaped tbsp. Form nutrition protein powder (I use peanut butter chocolate flavour)

1 tsp. cinnamon (stabilising blood sugar)

1-1,5 dl. (boiled) water

(optional 1/2 dl oat milk)

I usually just cover the frozen berries with the hot water so it’s not as cold and then add oat milk based on how liquid I want it. Blend it all with a stick blender, which you can just flush and there’s not much mess to making this little nutrient bomb.

I also usually add my other powdered supplements to the mix so I make sure I get it all in there. Currently my most needed add on is my Jing powder from Superfeast, which I’ll also be creating a post about, as that helps me boost my kidneys and combat the stress left in my body from dealing with PTSD.

Serve yourself your shake in your favourite glass. I always have it with a glass straw to protect my teeth.

PROTEIN BANANA PANCAKES

Mix together in a bowl:

1 whole egg + 2 x egg white (protein)

2 x mashed bananas (magnesium)

A scoop of vanilla protein powder (protein)

A dash of cinnamon (stabilising blood sugar)

Optional; a handful of oats if it seems too sticky

Fry your pancakes in coconut oil and add frozen blueberries while cooking (antioxidants)

Serve with fresh raspberries or blackberries, which are now in season.
